“Fire Flocks” in the Baronia de Rialb

The Diputació de Lleida has given funding to the “Fire Flocks” project which should allow the expansion of the project to shepherds in the Barony of Rialb. Specifically, it will allow starting with a small-scale test based on the diagnosis and action plan of the area, to understand the needs of the territory and assess the implementation of “Fire Flocks” in the Baronia of Rialb. This support shows the commitment of the Diputació de Lleida to promote the economic viability of extensive livestock farming and to reduce the risk of large forest fires through silvopasture in strategic areas and other areas of interest.

The “Fire Flocks” project, created in 2016 and initially implemented in the province of Girona, helps manage the risk of wildfires through pasture. The contribution of herds to fire risk management is enhanced, through grazing in forest areas. The “Ramats de Foc” seal favours the continuity of livestock activity in the territory and prevents major fires.
